Premature Humor at the Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa

Premature Humor at the Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa

Israel's most widely circulated paper Yedioth Ahronoth has amazed the country last Sunday with a huge photograph on its cover, showing a senior Neonatal nurse smiling to the camera with, well, a premature baby inside her uniform pocket. Apparently the photograph was taken as a "humorous gesture" during a hospital teaching presentation at the Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa. Here is a closer look:

Premature Humor: detail

Furthermore - believe it or not - senior management of Bnei Zion Medical Center confirmed that the photos, were also published on the hospital's intranet website. The nurse, in case you wonder, now faces disciplinary action for her somewhat premature sense of humor.

Original story on Yedioth's website (Hebrew)

  1. Jeez - what do they do with the normal babies?!

  2. My cousin was born more than 2 months premature and within the first 12 hours of being born had open heart surgery. Luckily he survived and is living a normal life 23 years later.

    How is this funny?!

She should be fired! A mother and father is somewhere probably wonder if their baby will live, if their baby will be normal, and if their baby is in good hands. APPARENTLY NOT!!

What if this baby later died? Would somebody be held accountable?

Come on guys this happened in Israel. You know we Americans will support them no matter what. Someone removes this pictures before they around saying that was a Palestinian baby.

I am guessing you people have never seen how tough a baby actually is. It would be one thing if this little blessing was intubated but it appears to be breathing on its own. I found this picture "humorous" because I too was a pocket baby but way back in the 80's! Yes, at times I think what were they thinking putting their .74 kilograms (1lb 10 oz) baby in some nurse's dress pocket (again showing my age- nurses in dresses?). Not saying all cases are like this but- have a preemie/premmie is hard and a little light-hearted fun is a great way to relieve some of the pain and anguish a family may experience. I only hope the family approve this- which I am sure they did.
